Dishwasher Leak Diagnosis
After arriving at the home, we removed the lower access panel and inspected the underside of the dishwasher. There were signs of water around the circulation pump and sump area. Accessing the lower assembly allowed us to look more closely at the connection.
Water on the floor establishes that there is a leak, but the puddle alone does not identify the failed part. We followed the moisture back toward the pump area to locate the source rather than selecting a replacement based only on the customer's initial symptom.
The water visible beneath the dishwasher was part of the original complaint. During diagnosis, we focused on where it was escaping from the machine. This helped narrow the repair to the pump connection instead of treating every wet component as a separate failure.

Finding the Source of the Leak
Closer inspection identified a worn, damaged circulation pump seal at the pump connection. Water was escaping from this area. The close-up photograph shows the original seal and droplets around the connection before the repair.
This rubber seal, also called a circulation pump gasket, seals the joint around the pump connection. Even a relatively small damaged seal can produce a noticeable leak while the circulation pump is moving water during the wash portion of a cycle.
For this GE GDT645SYN8FS, the diagnosed repair was seal replacement. A different dishwasher with a similar puddle still needs its own inspection to establish the source.
Replacing the Circulation Pump Seal
We removed the old circulation pump seal and installed the replacement at the connection. The photograph of the two seals shows the removed part alongside its replacement, including the damage visible on the old seal.
The repair itself took approximately 30 minutes. That describes this repair work; the inspection and operating checks are separate parts of the service visit. Access and the condition of the appliance can affect the time needed on another job.
After the seal replacement, we reassembled the dishwasher and prepared it for testing. The next step was to check the machine in operation and inspect the repaired area for water.
Testing the Dishwasher After Repair
With the dishwasher reassembled, we tested several operating modes. We checked filling, circulation pump operation, the wash cycle and draining. We also inspected the area around the circulation pump connection for leaks.
No leaks were found during the post-repair tests. The dishwasher completed the checks and the service job was closed. The accompanying close-up documents the pump connection after seal replacement; the operating checks followed reassembly.
Testing was a necessary part of confirming the result. Installing the seal addressed the diagnosed fault, and running the dishwasher let us check whether the connection stayed dry in use.
